The first American carrier-based torpedo bomber and the first low-wing all-metal monoplane in US military service, infamously decimated at the Battle of Midway in June 1942 when 36 of an attack force of 41 aircraft from HORNET, ENTERPRISE and YORKTOWN were destroyed by Japanese Zero fighters.
